History : The Balatiponé-Umitima People live in the region of the Bugres and Paraguay river valleys, in the State of Mato Grosso. The culture of the Balatiponé-Umutina indigenous people, both material and immaterial, suffered enormous damage due to the exploitation and territorial invasion of the white man, which caused many conflicts and epidemics, drastically reducing their population. The most significant loss was linguistic silencing. The Balatiponé culture took years to recover again, but with continuous effort from the entire community, especially the elders, leaders, teachers and youth, the culture has been recovering, highlighting ornaments made with plumage and gourds, such as headdresses, fans, painted gourds and coités (half a gourd), and currently the manufacture and trade of handicrafts is one of the main sources of income for the Balatiponé-Umutina families.
Note : Because they are produced by hand, each piece is unique, with no two being exactly the same. There may be small variations in dimensions (more or less), colors and tones between pieces and between what is perceived on cell phone or computer screens and the real pieces.
