Origin : Karajá ethnic group (Amazon)
History : Ceramic sculpture painted with natural pigments made by the Karajá ethnic group. The dolls are manufactured exclusively by women, who learn from their mothers, aunts and grandmothers, and teach them to their daughters, nieces and granddaughters. It is through doing and playing that children of this ethnic group learn the stories, myths and values of their people. The Karajá are recognized by Iphan as National Heritage for being the only people originally from Brazil who traditionally reproduce the human image and their daily lives. The dolls are a symbol of the continuity of Karajá tradition and identity.
Note : Because they are produced by hand, each piece is unique, with no two being exactly the same. There may be small variations in dimensions (more or less), colors and tones between pieces and between what is perceived on cell phone or computer screens and the real pieces.
