History : Nonato Montefusco is a wood designer who works in the state of Acre, in the flat Amazon region, bordering the Bolivian Andes. Born in Brazil, he specialized in reusing forestry waste in Canada, returning to Acre to dedicate himself to a project teaching how to carve wooden pieces from the reuse of fallen trees, for young people from extractive communities.

Since 2015, mainly, Nonato's work has become known nationally and internationally, for his sophisticated technique for producing troughs and vases, among other pieces. His work is highly unique and difficult to reproduce. The pieces are asymmetrical and have a very thin thickness, approximately 8mm, and the precision of the cut emphasizes the curves of the wood.

The wood he works with is reused from trees that have been lying in the forest for between 10 and 20 years. The longer the time, the better for your work, as it highlights the irregularities and cracks caused by the passage of time. The woods he most often works with are purple balsam, Amazon rosewood and red pitch.

As they are trees with very wide trunks, Nonato goes on expeditions through the forest, camping in a nearby community for around 20 days. During this time he searches for trees, makes the cuts, works on the pieces, sanding and treating them against insects, finishing the finishing in his studio.

Tip: To maintain the shine and hydration of the pieces, it is recommended to apply wax or transparent wood oil every 2 months, then polish with a dry cloth.
