Origin : Balatiponé-Umutina ethnic group - Central Brazil - South of the Amazon biome

History : The Balatiponé-Umitima People live in the Central-West region of Brazil. The culture of this indigenous ethnic group, both material and immaterial, suffered enormous damage due to the exploitation and territorial invasion of the white man, which caused many conflicts and epidemics, drastically reducing its population. The most significant loss was linguistic silencing. The Balatiponé culture took years to rise again, but with continuous effort from the entire community, especially the elders, leaders, teachers and young people, the culture has been rising again, highlighting ornaments made with plumage and gourds, such as headdresses, fans, painted gourds and coités (half a gourd), and currently the manufacture and trade of handicrafts is one of the main sources of income for the Balatiponé-Umutina families.

The fans are made with colored turkey feathers, and the handles are covered with straw collected from palm trees in the region.

Note : Because they are produced by hand, each piece is unique, with no two being exactly the same. There may be small variations in dimensions (more or less), colors and tones between pieces and between what is perceived on cell phone or computer screens and the real pieces. If you have any questions about any details, send us a message and we will be happy to resolve them.
