Origin : Brazil (State of Bahia)

Oxalá is an orisha, a deity worshiped in Brazilian religions of African origin, Candomblé and Umbanda. He is the creator of the universe and also the most powerful orisha. Oxalá can be given other names, such as Orixalá and Obatalá. He was the first of the orixás, who received the mission of creating the universe and also human beings. That's why he's called Father Oxalá.

The word hope is also used as an interjection to express the desire for something to happen. It is synonymous with "hopefully" or "God willing". The word originates from the Arabic expression in shaa Allaah, which means “if God wills”. In Spanish it had a similar development and gave rise to the word ojalá, with exactly the same meaning as oxalá in Portuguese.
